March. This is the third week of quarantine. It was known that we would be locked up for a few days but this seems to have no end. Every piece of information I read about the pandemic makes me think that this is just the beginning and a few months later or rather a year, I can confirm that it was.
Curiously, at those same times a new relationship, a new life, began. The dynamics of quarantine made spending time together different from any date or any format of spending time as a couple. So after a couple of nights sleeping in band t-shirts and pieces of clothing I don't like, I decided it was a good time to buy some nice pajamas. One that was cute but above all comfortable. Something where you wake up and look in the mirror and it doesn't look like you just basically got run over.
Doing a search on the internet, I discovered how difficult it was to find a garment of this nature, especially one that adapted to my pace of life. A life of non-stop work, walking to the office, endless video calls, taking the dog for a walk or going to buy cigarettes - whatever.
I saw options and finally decided to buy a pair and that's where the story began: disappointment….chichis from outside, clothes stretched out on the first wash, skin reactions, “feminine” prints and designs that only reinforce the wrong narrative of the gender… .in short, I didn't recognize myself. The best you can find has erotic tones or zero comfortable materials that prevent your skin from breathing.
It is very good to wear clothes that empower you sexually, who does not like to show off one or another fit, but let's be realistic, we cannot live in that line 365 days a year, we need to rest in peace. Sleep has a direct relationship with mental and physical health. Which is exactly what we need most in these strange times.
That's how Sleeping Beast arrived, and after fantasizing for a while with my sister and now partner Alejandra, we gave it a little shape and for my good luck one of my best friends from University, Alejandra Gomez, a talented fashion designer, arrived. to give it a lot of love and the tone and personality that the project so needed. Now we are a trio of women dissatisfied with the NO attention that the sleeping ritual receives and instead of complaining we are doing something about it. We want to present this project that we built with so much love hoping that there are more dissatisfied people or people who live with a feeling similar to ours.
Long live the beast. Daniela Garza
